People tend to have stubborn fat in certain areas. For men, its the stomach and lower back. For women, it is often these things along with their upper legs. Here is how you can lose that pesky leg fat for good!
Women tend to carry excess subcutaneous fat around their upper legs turning their thighs into one of their biggest problem areas. As a result, a lot of ladies feel really self-conscious when wearing shorts or swim suits.
So, how do you lose stubborn leg fat and achieve toned lower limbs?
Focus on Fat Loss as a Whole
As I’ve said many times before, spot reducing doesn’t work and has been debunked by science. Focus on fat loss in general as opposed to losing fat specifically from your legs. I assure you the cellulite will come off if you shift your emphasis on a total body routine.
When it comes to cardio, you can probably guess that I’m going to recommend HIIT.
Yep, this is definitely what I highly advise doing for boosting your metabolism and burning fat. However, when it comes to developing muscular and toned legs, you want to build some muscle in the area as well.
This is why I recommend HIIT using uphill or incline sprints. This can be done either outside where there’s a hill, or on the treadmill with an incline setting.
This builds muscle in the calf area, which is just as susceptible to fat accumulation as the thighs. The movement also works your hamstrings and glutes.
Do this using a typical HIIT format; that is, 20-30 seconds of incline sprinting followed by a 20-second rest. Keep repeating the process until you hit 15-20 minutes.
What About Strength Training?
For strength training, you will continue to train the way I normally outline. This means low volume compound exercises. You will gain some muscle out of it, enough to give you a slight metabolism boost, but not so much that you turn into a beefed up chick (unless, of course, you take synthetic steroids).
If you really want to tone up your legs, then make squats and lunges a focal point of your workout. This will help build muscle as well as lose fat everywhere, not just on your legs.
Once the cellulite around the thighs comes off, the muscles will show and add definition to your lower body.
Achieve Toned Legs With My Training Method
Remember, you can’t spot reduce, so you’re going to have to focus on total fat loss. Forget focusing solely on a specific problem area, be it on your legs or elsewhere.
