Without a proper diet, your efforts in the gym are for nil. It is so easy to get off track with your eating. When you’re busy with work and family commitments, it’s easy to opt for takeout or a bag of chips in that vending machine. This is why planning ahead is so crucial. Writing everything down on a meal plan template and having meals planned ahead for the entire week makes it so much easier to stay on path.
Be Super Organized
I’m all about pre-planning, and I plan all my meals for a full week in advance. Yes, I know it sounds like an overkill to plan what you’re going to have for lunch on Friday when it’s barely Monday. However, when you actually record on a scheduler what you intend on having, then you are less likely to deviate from it even when circumstances cause a disturbance to your routine.
That's the benefit of me writing your meal plan for you as well. Less pain means you'll do it longer.
How to Plan
With apps for just about everything these days, you can simply download a scheduler app for your smartphone. This way, you have the schedule right in front of you wherever you’re at. If you’re more old-fashioned, you can record everything on a dry-erase board and place the board somewhere in your kitchen. This also provides quick reference when you prepare your meal the night before.
Note: On the subject of preparing your meals the night before, that is something you are currently doing, right? If not, then I urge you to begin doing so. It only takes 10-20 minutes of your time each evening, and the payoff is huge.
Similarly, you can also record everything on a pocket organizer. Furthermore, meal plan templates can also be printed for free online. Here are a few good ones from Pinterest. Templates can also be created through Excel or by inserting a table chart on a Word document. It really doesn’t matter how you go about creating a template as long as you have one and adhere to it like glue.
You can watch this video on how to customize your own template. It's a bit lengthy and a bit of a bore to watch, but it contains really helpful information.
A Final Word
Even if you don’t like confining yourself to a set schedule, trust me when I say that being organized in this instance will keep you from straying. You may think that settling for drive-thru on a day beside your cheat day is acceptable because you’re on a tight schedule. Well, let me tell you from experience, even when you have to eat on the move, you can do just that if you have a meal (prepared the night before) readily by your side.
On a final note, if you’re having a tough time coming up with an organized meal schedule, then let me help by customizing a meal plan for you. Disciplined eating combined with disciplined exercise is the recipe for a body worthy of gracing a fitness magazine cover.
